Pashmina is the finest wool shorn from the soft undercoat (neck and belly) of Himalayan mountain goats. Which are softest in the animal's anatomy (where the fiber is longer and dense) They have been bred for centuries for their highly valuable hair and wool, which is the source of the pashmina fibers. The feather light fiber is extraordinarily soft and light, yet exceptionally warm. A goat is capable of producing only about three ounces of pashmina wool per year. This is why pashmina has been called 'diamond fabric". It is also called the 'soft fiber gold' of Asia. Each Spring, the goats' silky insulating underbelly down, profusely mixed with an upper layer of thick and coarse dead fibers, is plucked by hand. It is made with an extremely complicated technique to extricate pure Pasham from the beds of the coarser dead fibers into which the real fiber is deeply embedded. Uncles fibers are cleaned up to 97% purity before hand spinning, the unique texture of pashmina does not emerge. see details
