Product Description
This Tangier Shawl is inspired by a design in the vast collections of the Cooper-Hewitt. The Cooper Union Museum for the Arts of Decoration was founded by the three Hewitt sisters and opened on May 26, 1897. The granddaughters of industrialist Peter Cooper wanted to create a museum that would function as a visual library of design, serving to educate and inspire artisans and designers. Today, housed in the historic 1902 Andrew Carnegie mansion in New York City, this contemporary museum is now known as the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. The textile collections contain a wide variety of woven and non-woven pieces, including tapestries, jacquards and a large number of woven costume accessories. This Tangier Shawl represents the breadth of woven fabrics and patterns found in the collection. see details
